Exciting Updates: Student Assessments and Grading Schedule

Hello to all our students and supportive parents!

It’s that vibrant time of the year again when we witness the growth and achievements of our students through our upcoming grading assessments. Over the next couple of weeks, during regular class times, our senseis will be observing and selecting students for grading. If your child is chosen, keep an eye on your inbox! We’ll be sending out individual invitations via email with all the details you need—dates, times, and what to expect.

For our newer members, who have been with us for less than 8 weeks, it’s important to note that they might not be grading this time around. While there are a few exceptions, this is generally the standard practice to ensure they are fully prepared and confident for their future grading, likely in the next round.

We have initially scheduled the grading on the following dates, but please bear with us as these might change based on the number of students nominated for grading:

  • Saturday, 20th April: Super Dragons & Black Dragons, and possibly some Little Dragons. For current White and Red Belts.
  • Sunday, 21st April: Super Dragons & Black Dragons, Current Yellow Belts, and another session for Mighty Dragons & Black Dragons, Current Orange Belts.
  • Saturday, 27th April: A repeat session for Mighty Dragons & Black Dragons, Current Orange Belts.
  • Sunday, 28th April: Mighty Dragons & Black Dragons, Current Green Belts.
  • Saturday, 4th May: Mighty Dragons & Black Dragons, Current Blue Belts.
  • Sunday, 5th May: Black Dragons & Advanced Students in Adults class, Current Purple & Brown Belts.

Understanding Tags and Belt Progression

We understand the excitement and anticipation that comes with grading. It’s a chance to celebrate the hard work and progress of each student. However, it’s crucial for both students and parents to understand that as the belts get higher, progressing to the next full belt becomes more challenging and less frequent.

But here’s the good news! We also award Tags—yes, these count as grades too! This system allows students to continue feeling rewarded and see their progression without having to wait 12 to 18 months for a new belt. Tags are a testament to improvement and are steps towards the next full belt level.

We’re excited to see our students showcase their skills and hard work. Let’s keep the energy high and support each other as we approach these thrilling weeks. Stay tuned for your personal invites and further updates.

Thank you all for being a part of our dynamic community. Here’s to achieving new heights together!

Keep kicking high and aiming higher!
